HTC named Community Tennis Association of the Year!

The Henderson Tennis Club was named the United States Tennis Association of Kentucky’s Henderson Tennis Club named Community Tennis Association of the Year for 2017 at the organization’s annual awards and honors dinner and reception on January 26 at the Louisville Palace.

The Henderson Tennis Club achieved "gold level" status for the first time in 2017 and was awarded a $500 grant. The club earned honors by increasing participation in the summer and fall junior team-tennis programs as well as the spring, summer, and fall adult leagues.

The organization participates in fundraising to help maintain the Doc Hosbach Tennis Complex on the Henderson Riverfront. Among the fundraisers was a new dinner and auction in July that raised more than $4,000. The club annually offers three tournaments and added an additional "Hat Tournament" on the Fourth of July. Additional club activities included subsidizing youth lessons and the USTA Southern program "Tennis Apprentice" for new and returning adult players.

Henderson Tennis Club president Donna Spencer, who accepted the award, was quick to point out that the 2017 successes were a group effort. “We could not have accomplished these goals without an active club and many volunteers.

Although we are proud of our accomplishments, we hope to build on these in 2018 in promoting the sport we love,” she said.
